First Mumbai International Beer Fest

Another day, another beer fest.

Last year the Mumbai Oktoberfest organised by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce was the most talked about event in the city in October. This year, with limited seating and a rather steep rise is prices, people are looking for other options. And by the looks of it everyone is organising their own version of the Oktoberfest.

The Mumbai International Beer Festival at D’Monte Park Recreation Centre in Bandra is organised by the Pune Gourmet Club along with Monsoon Winds. A somewhat different concept form the other ‘oktoberfests’, this first edition will have craft beer from Germany, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Ireland, England, China and India.

Guzzle guzzle: The beers on offer are Amstel, Brooklyn, Chimay, Duvel, Fuller’s London Pride, Liefman’s, Moinette, Murphy’s, Sagres, Saison Dupont, Schneider Weisse, and Tsingtao. And when you order the beer on tap they will be served in measures of 473 ml (US) and 570 ml (UK) – a real pint, not the  330 ml stubbie that’s usually palmed off in most places.  The website has been updated with the prices of all the beers.

Beer + Both days will have tasting sessions, beer quizzes by Vikram Achanta of Tulleeho and craft beer trail tasting (I’m really looking forward to this!) with live bands performances.

Food: Counters by Mocha, Ray’s Pizza, Cafe Arabia and Red Ninja Express serving beer friendly food.

Extras: Every visitor will get a tasting cup and free coupons from Mocha (Buy 1 Bud, get 1 free at all Mocha outlets), Rs. 100 off on purchase of Tsingtao 6 pack at the festival and Buy 2 pizzas, get 1 free from Ray’s.

You can buy tasting passes here. They begin at Rs. 500 for 1 adult.

The October 15-16 weekend promises to be fun. The 1st Mumbai International Beer Festivals seems like a great deal and is the first of its type in India. There is more than just German bier here.

Don’t miss it. C’ya there 🙂
